How self drive car rental actually works in Ranchi

You pick a car online, upload your driving licence + Aadhaar (KYC takes about two minutes), pay a refundable security deposit, and we hand over the keys at Birsa Munda Airport (IXR), Ranchi Junction, or any address inside the city. You drive yourself — no driver, no fixed itinerary. Drop the car back at the agreed time and your deposit is released within 48 hours of inspection.

What a self drive car costs in Ranchi (April 2026 rates)

Prices below are real Drigo platform rates for trips picked up in April 2026. They include the car, basic insurance, and 250 km/day. Fuel is on the renter.

CarPer dayBest for
Maruti Swift / Baleno₹2,000–2,200Solo / couple, city + short trips
Maruti Dzire₹2,000–2,200Family of 4, airport runs
Hyundai Creta / Maruti Grand Vitara₹3,000Comfortable highway cruising
Toyota Innova Crysta₹4,0006–7 people, family trips
Mahindra Thar₹5,000Netarhat, off-road, photo trips
Mahindra Scorpio N₹6,500Long Jharkhand circuits, hill driving

Weekend & long-weekend pricing can be 10–15% higher. Multi-day bookings (4+ days) usually unlock a small discount on the platform.

What's actually included — and what isn't

This is where most rental disappointments start. Here's the honest split.

Included: The car, RC + valid pollution certificate, comprehensive insurance, 24x7 roadside assistance, 250 km per day, and one set of doc papers.

Not included: Fuel, tolls, parking, inter-state permit (only relevant for Odisha trips), traffic challans, and damage to tyres/underbody from off-road misuse. We'll always show these add-ons on the booking screen — never as a surprise at handover.

Picking up at IXR airport vs in the city

Birsa Munda Airport (IXR) is 15 km from the city centre. We deliver right outside the arrivals hall — there's a ten-minute free pickup window before parking charges start, so we time the handover to your flight landing time. If your flight is delayed, we wait at no extra cost. City delivery (anywhere within Ranchi municipal limits — Lalpur, Doranda, Hinoo, Kanke) is free; outside that radius a small delivery fee applies.

The 5 most popular self drive trips from Ranchi

  1. Ranchi → Netarhat (160 km, 4 hr): The "Queen of Chotanagpur". Sunrise point and Magnolia point are unmissable. Best in a Thar or Scorpio N — the last 30 km has a steep gradient.
  2. Ranchi → Hundru Falls + Jonha Falls (45 + 40 km): Doable in a single day from October to February. Any sedan handles this easily.
  3. Ranchi → Patratu Valley (40 km): The winding ghat road is one of Jharkhand's most photographed drives. 90 minutes one way.
  4. Ranchi → Hazaribagh National Park (90 km, 2.5 hr): Excellent on NH 33. Stay overnight at the forest rest house.
  5. Ranchi → Deoghar (260 km, 6 hr): A weekend pilgrimage drive. Innova or Scorpio N recommended for the group size you'll usually travel with.

Six small mistakes we see first-time renters make

  1. Booking the smallest car for a 5-person trip. Four adults + luggage in a Swift is fine; five is not. Step up to a Creta or Innova.
  2. Skipping the pre-trip inspection video. We send you a 30-second walk-around clip before handover. If you don't watch it, you can't dispute scratches later.
  3. Forgetting the FASTag balance. Most cars have FASTag installed — top it up to ₹500 if you're going on highways.
  4. Driving into Odisha without telling us. Inter-state permits are needed for Odisha. We can arrange it free if you tell us 12 hours in advance.
  5. Returning at midnight without notice. Late-night returns need staff coordination; do it in advance and there's no extra charge.
  6. Filling fuel only at the last petrol pump on NH 33. That pump is 15% costlier. Refill in Ranchi or at the IOCL pump on the Ring Road.

Documents you need (and what we don't ask for)

Required: A valid Indian driving licence (LMV class, at least 1 year old) and Aadhaar. That's it.

We do NOT ask for: Salary slip, voter ID, Pan card, employer letter, or social media verification. KYC is via DigiLocker / Aadhaar OTP — your data never leaves the verification flow.
